"Thanks, but no thanks"

This was unfortunately the response given when MLSE finally showed that when it comes to hockey, they have something vaguely resembling a brain in that region above their figurative shoulders.

In a vague attempt to bring in someone for the Leafs who would be equivalent to Bryan Colangelo of the Raptors, they went after the veritable Czar of Hockey, Scotty Bowman.

However, Mr. Bowman is not, in fact, coming to town at all. Turns out the place may be too fucked up for his liking... which should speak volumes to any Leaf fan about the state of their favourite franchise.

And don't even get me started on trading away all their draft picks for Vesa Toskala... yes, an upgrade on Raycroft, but seriously... WTF?!? Isnt' building for the future when you can have Pogge in net a little more important than making another half-hearted run at the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference?

Okay, I guess you got me started, but I'm going to end it.
Times like this, I've never been happier to be a Hab fan. :)

I agree. Habs fans should be happy about their team.

I can't wait to see if the Habs sign another excellent free agent this summer 'cause Montreal did such a great job last year. Is there a player out there better than Samsonov?

Realistically, Montreal doesn't need any free agent help. It's such a great team already. Even if Koivu gets cancer again, you can always count on Bonk to be your number one centre. If you don't believe me, just ask the Ottawa fans.

Some sports writers out there suggest that Montreal might want to sign Briere. I don't understand why they would have such ridiculous ideas. Kovalev is already with the team and he can play centre and wing. Like all Russian players, he's a really good skater. He can skate so fast that you don't notice him during most games.

I know that Montreal finish behind Toronto last year, but that's in the past. The team has a bright future and it's a great time to be a Habs fan.

Oh, um... did I hit a nerve? :)

My mistake. With Mr. Toskala, this is definitely the Leafs' year!

No, really... this year, for sure. It has to be.

PS: I thought you weren't a Leaf fan anymore?

PPS: Hockey is arguably my least favourite of the 4 major sports, anyway... so as if I could give a rat's ass. Tho in those rare instances that I do, I just think back to 1993, and smile. :)

I guess it was the "happy to be a Hab fan" thing that set you off.... but I guess I could have just said "Not Leaf fan" and been just as accurate.

Did you stop being a Dolphins fan when they traded for Culpepper?

Nothing from your post really "ticked me off." Being a Leafs fan sucks. That's all. I don't think the Leafs will win it all next season. In fact, I realized that I might not live to see the day when the Leafs win the cup again. Yeah... it's that bad.

As for the Toskala trade, it looks really bad right now. Although, Kiprusoff is another Finnish backup goalie traded from San Jose. There's still hope...........

I am going to take my meds now and get back to reality.

Sadly, when the 'Fins for Daunte, I drank the teal and orange Kool-Aid and believed what all the people at ESPN and SI were saying and thought that they had a chance to be the first home team to play in a Super Bowl.

Alas, it ended up being a monumental fuck up on their part... but at least it didn't have me contemplating the tensile strengths of my belts at the time of the trade.

    Silver linings, dude, silver linings....

    Two more things....

    1. Silver Lining? Well the Leafs maybe positioning themselves for the number one overall pick in 2009 for Tavares... Yeah... that's it....

    2. The comments made on your blog were in good fun. If you are not going to use the blogosphere to make crazy, sarcastic comments about professional sports, what are you going to use the internet for? Porn?

    1. Sometimes it's faint... but it's there!

    2. Who takes anything I say seriously in the first place? I'll argue that black is white with a willing participant if I'm having a slow day at work! :)
