Importance of Semantics

Saturday night, over dinner, a few of us got into a discussion of the differences in looks that words like "attractive", "hot", "cute", etc. are supposed to imply.

We thought we had reached some kind of consensus, with the idea that "attractive" is a true umbrella term....but then DC whips out this "if a tree falls"-level comment:

"Jessica Simpson is hot...but is she really attractive?"
